Home Energy HERO offeres HERS Ratings (Home Energy Rating System) for homeowners, builders, contractors, architects and real estate professionals in parts of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
A Home Energy Rating (HERS Rating) is similar to a miles-per-gallon rating for your car, but for your house. During the HERS Rating, we evaluate each of your home's components (building envelope, insulation, windows and doors, duct and HVAC systems) in order to determine the energy efficiency of the home. We then assign the home a score along the HERS Index (seen at right), which ranks a building from 1-150, with higher numbers representing greater energy consumption, and a lower number representing less energy consumption. A zero-energy home, which produces at least as much energy as it consumes, is a 0. A standard new home is a 100.
